Once you learn the tools you can build sites in 20-30 minutes and then start posting content. Usually within a day I have a new site running strong.

Hi,
I’ve just published a free wordpress plugin which I believe very useful for building travel websites / destination guides.
It auto-embeds a google map just writing an address on each post.

It can also display a global map with all the posts displayed as markers – pretty cool and easy. And free of course ;)

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/romeluv-google-maps-for-wordpress/

I’d love you to consider adding it to the list as it very lightweight and easy to hack (only one file) yet takes care of geocoding & everything pretty straightforwardly!

I think you're doing fine because it is a hard keyword.

I think I managed to reach the highest spot for a good time… I'm #3 for the main keyword and sprinklered in the first and second page for other keywords. But, what I feared from the beginning turned to be true… those keywords don't have much traffic… so I'm trying to expand to other keywords and test the waters on more challenging competition.

Let's see what happens… :)

Thanks Norbert. I just have the one site at the moment, but the TBC is kind of like a niche site :) I'll be honest, I have really found a very hard keyword phrase and I'm having trouble getting onto google first page. i'm suck around the 3rd spot on second page. Time to push a bit harder (I have to admit I have not been working very hard on it for a while now).

Todd, this is a really good step by step on how to make a niche. For this challenge, I've done my steps almost the same as you did. In fact, as part of the challenge I'm doing a post similar to yours.

Just curious, how many niche sites are you running currently?

I have to read your posts as soon and as often as I should, Todd. But work is getting in the way. Me and the wife did set up a niche website. We've not put in any ads yet and content is still very little, but hey, we were about #4-5 in google and yahoo search for our keyword. But still have a lot of work to do on this. Thanks for this blog and this post. It's really so helpful and fun, in a kind of i-don't-know way.

Great post, thanks!

I signed up with VaultPress for backup. Hope I will never need it...

Based on your article I added Widget Logic in order to show some widgets on the homepage only. All in One SEO is broken on my travel blog for some reason. It worked until recently but now it shows the URL instead of the proper title tag. Interestingly enough the traffic has not gone down. Reinstalling has not helped so far :(
