My big idea, looking for comments

Hello All.  I'm very new to this but I wanted to post my "big idea" and see what others thought about the feasibility.    My idea is much the same as many others, to make some income from blogging.   The path I want to take is a bit different, but I'm think all good travel blogs are a bit different.

I am a sailor, but with only some experience.  In my  mid 40's I convinced my wife to let me buy a very funky homemade catamaran and take our family sailing for up to a year.   We ended up doing 1500+ miles and spending 7 months aboard and 9 months away from home.  We did start up a blog, but I was not that engaged as we were learning so much of this new lifestyle.  Still, I liked writing when I did and I got a HUGE rush when anyone posted comments or Emailed me about what we had been doing.  I even started getting Email from persons I did not know and had a small following for a while.  Ultimately we got too involved with what we were doing and as we started our trip back to the US we went back to living fast and frantically (like most everyone else).  I never did "finish" my story.  A bit sad as I still have many pictures and pages to post.

Now after returning home and having 8 months of introspection, I'm thinking about a much larger cruise and for far longer.   Let me say here (without beating a horse) that the cruising life was the most fun we had ever had as a family.  We became closer than ever before.  Out kids matured in that short time much past their years.  We all want to this something like this again, but as always cost is an issue.  We are not poor, but not rich either.  Our next trip will take much of the money we have if not all.  My goal is not to become rich but to make some income.  Actually, we can live quite comfortably in a thousand a month so that is my goal.  If it is possible to make more that would be great, but the 1000 a month would make it possible to even do.

There are other elements to my blog idea.  As I had said, a family traveling (on a boat) around the world but it has been done before.  Where I think my blog will be different is that we will be sailing on a very special boat called a proa.  No proas have ever been sailed around the world so there is some "press" value in that alone.  Also my children's "schooling" will become the blogging.  They will still have to do math, but they will be reading and writing hours a day for the blog.  Their education would include making videos, pod-casts, and stories about the places we see, the local history and living aboard.  So ultimately I expect it to be a family affair with all four of us updating the site almost daily and each of us with a niche to fill.  I would expect we may appeal to the traveler, sailors, homeschoolers, kids of all ilk, boat builders, multihull enthusiasts, and more.  We expect out trip to last 3 to 4 years until both of our kids graduate high school.  If "approved" we will start this project in the next few months.  I'll blog for a year about the preparation work, and the building of the boat.  In the spring of 2013 we'll launch from Seattle, and spend a few months working through the boats kinks.  We'll leave in late summer to winter in Mexico.  From there we will leave for the Galapagos islands for a month and then south towards New Zealand.  We would expect to spend a year in the south pacific then north to the Orient.  The following year we would (bypass North Africa and Arabia!) and head across the Indian Ocean to south Africa.  After 6 months or so we would round the cape of good hope and up Africa's West coast.  At that point we may do the med, or possibly just across to the Caribbean.  Another winter and then through the Panama Canal, over to Hawaii, and then north into the trades to Seattle.

So, I'm just wondering if this sounds hokey, or what appeal this might have.  I fully expect to make this my full time job once I leave the West coast of the US, and I don't feel like I have a super rosy picture of what I could earn.  Again, if I could make a grand a month, that would be enough for us.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to comment.
