Typically the more UNIQUE and in depth content the better. If you set out with the mindset that you want to create a resource for people that will help them with their goal ( in this case home improvement) and you provide them with THE BEST tips and articles, there is no way that your blog wont be a success. I would start by laying out a timeline of the posts you wish to produce over the next few months. Then, put out some feelers for people looking to create content for you. There is a wealth of writers out there just looking to gain exposure through opportunities like this. Focus on the reader and there is no way you can fail. The blog you referenced (http://www.bedbathstore.com) is certainly a leader in the home decor space and you would be wise to follow in their example but remember that being unique is truly what will set you apart.
